ketchup

Also known as “catsup”. Ketchup is a puree of tomatoes, vinegar, sweetening, and spices—invented (in its tomato form, 85 years earlier the first ketchup recipe contained none) in 1812 and rarely called for in mixed drinks, and always in Bloody Mary variants. “Catsup” is a spelling variant of the earlier "ketchup".
