gentian tincture

Tincture of gentian is the result of extracting the essential oils from gentian root with neutral spirits over a period of time (weeks) and then filtering the spirits. Typically, this sort of tincture is home-made. As a starting point, use 1 tbsp cut dried yellow gentian root for 2 oz neutral grain spirits. Agitate daily. The extraction may take 2-4 weeks, but you'll need to test along the way. The resulting tincture has highly concentrated flavor and is typically employed in drops.
