lavender tincture

Lavender tincture is generic for a commercially packaged or home-made extract of fresh and/or dried lavender flowers in ethyl alcohol. If you buying commercially, make sure the product is food safe. To make, fill a sealable glass jar, such as a mason jar, half-to-two-thirds-full with dried or fresh lavender flowers. Cover the flowers with a neutral spirit, ideally a very neutral-tasting vodka between 80 and 100 proof. Seal and store in a dark, cool location. Extraction may take 4 to 6 weeks. When suitably extracted, carefully filter through cheesecloth and store in glass, away from light.
