Orange refers to any of a number of varieties of fresh citrus fruit, but mainly the sweet orange, of which the bred “Navel orange” is the most common in the United States. In cocktail use, a piece of orange, cut cross-wise as a wheel or lesser portion of a wheel, a twist of orange skin, or as a quarter-segment suitable for hand-squeezing over a drink or as a garnish. Also the basis for juice, extract, syrup, liqueur, and spirit constituent forms used commonly in drinks.
