Also known as “Sri Lankan black tea”. Ceylon tea is generic for the oxidized red leaf (“black”) teas of Sri Lanka. Note that terminology such as “orange pekoe” and “tippy” pertain to a leaf grading system and have no inherent relationship to the actual quality or flavor of the tea. Depending on the application, any old blend of dark tea from Sri Lanka or India may suffice. If subtle flavor and character are needed, then seek high end product from a small importer, such as In Pursuit of Tea.
