“Instant drink mix” is generic for a class of commercial (typically) bottled preparations that simplify the drink mixing process by providing a premix of all the (typically) non-alcoholic ingredients, usually requiring only the addition of a base spirit and ice. In truth, these products are generally diluted syrups, and even when not laced with preservatives and artificial flavors and colors, inevitably involve preservation techniques (pasteurization) that destroy any semblance of natural flavor.
