Flavored bourbons (and other flavored American whiskies) are a relatively recent phenomenon and there’s no real tradition or predictability in the segment: producers do whatever they like. The main variable is sweetness: some flavored bourbons are essentially liqueurs whereas others aren’t significantly sweeter than straight bourbon (i.e., no added sugar).
