chile pepper

Chile pepper is generic for the fruit of the New World plant Capsicum, comprising a wide array of cultivated chile pepper varieties. One of the primary characteristics of chile peppers is their spicy heat, which varies in intensity from non-existent to amongst the most intensely painful flavors in nature. (The other primary characteristic common to most chile peppers is its brightly-colored, shiny skin.)
