Black salt is generic for a black colored condiment salt. One kind of black salt is simply regular sodium cloride crystals colored with activated charcoal. A more interesting variety is the “Himalayan Black Salt” (amongst other names), which is either a mined salt or synhetically produced and contains impurities (sulphers) that make it pungent and darkly-colored.
