Also known as “wako matcha”. Matcha powder is pulverized Japanese green tea leaves. Matcha powder is used to brew the tea Matcha, central to the Japanese tea ceremony, but is also used culinarily, especially in dessert items. Matcha is the only example of a tea where the leaf itself is consumed. Matcha powder is quite bitter, although some is strongly bittersweet.
