matcha

0% ABVJapan

Generic for a versatile powder of ground japanese green tea. Principally consumed as an intense, frothy hot green tea beverage produced by whisking a small amount of the matcha in a small quantity hot water, a practice closely associated with the Japanese tea ceremony. Matcha is also employed widely in baking, cold beverages, and ice cream. Matcha is more or less unique for being a form of tea where the leaves are actually consumed, rather than used in an infusion and discarded. Matcha does contain caffeine. Matcha is also notable for its vivid green color—light green when dry, dark green when wet. Matcha can be used sparingly for color and decoration.
