Boker’s Bitters
Defunct proprietary New York-based digestive bitters brand of presumed cardamom character called for in 19th century cocktail guides as aromatic bitters. No evidence of manufacture after Prohibition, or indeed, much else after the advent of the 20th century. The resurgence in interest in cocktails and bitters beginning in the 1990s has led to various attempts to recreate Boker’s Bitters for the present day. While these attempts may be partly based on rare vintage samples of the original product, they inevitably involve a great deal of conjecture and should be enjoyed with that fact in mind.
