Also known as “big ice”,“large lump of ice”. Historically, a large lump of ice is a piece of ice cut from block ice and whittled down to fit inside and mostly fill a serving glass or cocktail shaker. In contemporary bar service, a large ice cube is much the same, although it might be cut or formed with a mold.
